Lafiya Sisters

An integral part of our model relies on leveraging local health networks - a community of trained nurses and midwives, whom we call Lafiya Sisters.

We are currently working with 120 Lafiya Sisters across northern Nigeria.

From the community and for the community

Nominated by rural communities, Lafiya Sisters are graduates from a two-year healthcare training program funded by the Gates Foundation and UK’s FCDO.

Upon graduation, they return and serve their resident communities as nurses and midwives.

Lafiya Sisters: honing the family planning expertise

Top graduates are inducted to become Lafiya Sisters, further trained in family planning usage and counselling by the State Ministry of Health.

Community trust and expertise leveraged to guide clients to make the best family planning decision.

Hear from our Lafiya Sisters

“Lafiya is successful because they target the women at community level who don’t have access to free family planning information.”

Shamsiya Ibrahim

“Why I like working with Lafiya Nigeria is that it gives me the opportunity to share awareness of the benefits of family planning with the women in the community even at [their] homes.”

Ikhlas Yusuf Yakub

“What makes [Lafiya] successful is dedication, compliance, patience and active participation from the Lafiya team and the Lafiya Sisters”

Zainab Lawal
