Family planning in the hands of women

Enabling access to safe family planning options in northern Nigeria

What is Lafiya Nigeria?

More than 222 million women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa do not have access to safe and voluntary family planning.

Nearly 90,000 women die each year from complications of unintended pregnancies. We believe this number should be zero.

Lafiya Nigeria enables access to safe family planning in northern Nigeria. By using a cost-effective and community-based distribution model, Lafiya Nigeria provides women and girls with access to contraception and information about family planning. We purchase and distribute an innovative, self-injectable contraceptive called ‘Sayana Press’ (or DMPA-SC) free of charge, which provides contraceptive cover for three months from a single injection. We have distributed over 90,000 doses so far.
